The Story Behind Letters From The Fairies: From a Little Bookshop Idea to New Idea Magazine

The Little Idea That Started It All
In 2021, I was happily running my cute little Noosa Hinterland bookshop - A Little Shop of Soul. The business was doing so well and brought a lot of joy to locals. I absolutely loved running my own business, and when covid hit, it gave me pause to think "What else can I offer to the world?" I had no idea that little idea would eventually become Letters From The Fairies, a fairy letter subscription delivering magical letters to children around the world.
Where the Fairies Came In
I had always loved fairies and had completed a Fairyologist course years earlier. One morning I was driving to the shop and suddenly had a big idea! My brain went 'ding ding ding! - A fairy letter subscription for kids!'. Seeing the pressures of growing up in this busy world, I thought about how fairy wisdom could bring so much joy and inspiration to kids.
Creating a Fairy Letter Subscription
So, I committed to it! I spent about a year creating the letters, figuring out how to run the subscription and gathering inspiration. I honestly didn't mind if I only had one subscriber - I just knew I had to create this.

The Magic of Receiving a Letter in the Letterbox
Starting with just my friends and family, the letters went out. The subscriber numbers grew steadily month by month, and I celebrated every little accomplishment. Before long, I realised what a beautiful thing I had created with the fairies - the anticipation, the reading, the imagination, the childhood memories, and simply the excitement of receiving something special in the letterbox. Over 50,000 magical letters later, I think I can safely say the proof is in the pudding!
From a Little Idea to New Idea Magazine
I was on a little holiday and received a message from a journalist wanting to feature me in a national magazine with a readership of over 1.5 million! I thought this was a wonderful opportunity for more people to learn about Letters From The Fairies, so I said YES straight away. I had a lovely chat with the journalist over the phone, and secretly felt proud of myself because if this had been offered a few years ago, I'm not sure I would've had the confidence to do it. Seeing the finished article at my local newsagent was amazing! I think it was so well put together, and to see this special little business I've built be recognised like this was a real milestone moment.
